The folkdance group Edelweiß was founded in July 1936 in Hörtendorf near Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. At that time the dancer wore the Lobisser traditional costume but since 1950 they chose to
wear the costume of the Gailtal (valley of south west Carinthia). Beside the preservation of dance, costume and traditional music heritage, the ambition of the group is to connect with abroad and
with other regions in Austria. These opportunities familiarize other nations with Austrian native traditions and allow meeting new cultures. The folkdance group was rewarded with the emblem of
Carinthia for this cultural heritage care. The title “ambassador in cultural heritage” was discerned by local media.
